Style Report: Bohemian Brides

The common use of the term “Bohemian” comes from the French “bohemien,” which was descriptive of citizens from Bohemia (now present-day Czechoslovakia) who were believed to be gypsies.

The late 19th Century Parisian Bohemian Movement was a reaction by artists in the cafes against the stubborn society definitions of art.  Counting Toulouse-Lautrec among them, these artists embraced the radical and the noncomformative in their work.  The Bohemian movement has continued artistically, through such outlets as surrealism, punk rock and even the unconventional Designers we see at fashion week.

Today, the term has morphed to mean that which is artistic, creative and unconventional.

Now that we have the educational portion of this post out of the way…

The “Bohemian” style has been spotted at numerous Design Houses this season and we have seen an increasing number of Bohemian-Inspired looks in the past few weeks.

Our hands-down favorite is this incredible gown by Amanda Wakeley:

Nicole Miller showed some easy-to wear styles with a Bohemian flair.  We love the idea of tossing this in a bag and runnign off for some island nuptials:

And for the stunningly-chic yet Bohemian-at-heart bride, look no further than this Lace number from Marchesa.  We imagine Kate Hudson in this.

We have a sneaking suspicion as to why this look is so in-demand of late…

Whether you go fully Bohemian with your wedding style or choose to incorporate it into one art of your look, you are certain to find an element that is at once timeless and suddenly of-the-moment.  One last look at a Bohemian Bride – Dress by Modern Trousseau and Accessories and styling by Renee Pawele for The White Dress:

How to Have the Perfect Bridal Appointment

Dearest White Dress Ladies,

I want my bridal appointment to be the most perfect ever!  How can I ensure that I will find the perfect dress?

Sincerely,

The Perfectionist Bride

Dearest Perfectionist Bride,

We are so grateful for you inquiry!  Simply follow our easy steps and you will be ensured to have a perfectly fulfilling appointment, ending in the selection of the most beautiful gown for your special day!

1. Come prepared: Do a little research and let us know what you are looking for!  You wouldn’t go shopping for a pair of boots without knowing whether you wanted stiletto, block heel or flat; mid-calf, knee or above-the knee; leather, patent or vegan; brown, black or sassy red.  Take a look in magazines and websites (especially ours!) and let us know what you like.  But be prepared to fall in love with the polar opposite–many a girl in search of sensible shoes has walked out with a pair of deliciously daring d’orsays!

2. Be picky… when it comes to your guests.  The wedding gown is the greatest ‘reveal’ of the big day.  Why tire it out ahead of time by allowing everyone you know a say in the matter?  If your lesser-knowns insist on seeing it ahead of time, simply say “I’m dying to surprise you with it–I can’t wait to see the look on your face!”  Bring the decision-maker, a trusted friend and a sibling.  Tell the rest to wait for the big reveal–it will be worth it!

3. Be honest.  Have strong likes?  Let your stylist know. Have strong dis-likes?  Definitely let your stylist know.  Wavering in between?  Confused?  Let your stylist know.  These are professionals, Dear Bride!  Just as your hairstylist knows how to create the perfect layers, your stylist knows how to doll you up just perfectly–with your input, of course.  Have you a budget that you are ever-willed to stick to?  Good for you–let your stylist know!  The Mona Lisa didn’t get that smile by being a dissatisfied customer, did she?  She let Mr. DaVinci know exactly what look she was going for!

4. Feel free to have fun.  Find your gown should be the most special, wonderful and lovely part of your planning.  Allow it to be just that!  Let the stress go and be ready to laugh, cry and find the one.  If you are early to your appointment and could use some relaxation, visit one of our neighboring businesses for a cup of tea or a glass of the bubbly!

Shopping for your wedding gown should be the most special, fun part of your planning.  If you allow it to be just that, you will be sure to enjoy yourself and find the perfect gown.

Happy Shopping!

Style Report: A Surprise from Reem Acra

By the third day at market, we have seen a lot of gowns. I mean thousands. They start to look the same and by Monday, we were ready for something new.

Well, Ms Acra showed us something completely new. As tough as it is to reinvent the wheel, she did it! And Dear Brides, prepare yourselves to be amazed.

Dear Brides, have you ever tried on a gown and though, “I would love it, if only this,” and “if only that?” Ms Acra has the answer to your dreams! In her gorgeous Fifth Avenue showroom on the 16th, she showed us how her new Collection allows the bride to create her own look. Using a gown as the basis of the look, over skirts and overlays were added until the original gown took on a completely different look!

Start with the dress:
